isplay devices are one of the key components of any audio visual system and are among the most prominent and noticeable. There are many popular types of displays that are commonly found in today's meeting rooms and conference spaces. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Video Monitors
  • Front Projection Systems
  • Rear Projection Systems
  • Large Flat Panel Plasma Displays
  • Large Flat Panel LCD Displays
  • Video Cubes/Walls
  • Large Format LED Displays

Each type of display has its own particular benefit, and when selecting one, multiple types of devices should be compared to find the product that achieves your communication goals and works best with your environment.

There are several key factors that you should consider when selecting a display device:

Screen/Image Size: Make certain that your display is large enough to allow all participants to comfortably view and read content appearing on screen. Keep in mind that many times the key players sit at the head of the table, which is furthest from the display.

Resolution: The resolution of your display determines what kind of images it can show. Standard video resolution includes cable TV signals, VHS, and DVD images. Computer images require much higher resolutions ranging from VGA (800x600) to UXGA signals (1600x1200) and beyond. Make certain that you keep in mind your applications when selecting a display device to ensure that your display will support the resolution(s) that you require.

Light: Quality and controlled light is a necessity in the conference room. Ambient lighting allows participants to view and take notes, follow an agenda, it lights faces for conference cameras and it keep participants awake. While lighting is very beneficial to a conference, it can also be a nuisance. Uncontrolled lighting can wash out on-screen images and detract substantially from the quality of your presentations. Make certain that when selecting a display device you bear in mind the ambient lighting conditions of your room as different display devices have better tolerances for dealing with ambient lighting conditions.
